The majority of hysterectomies are performed because of fibroid tumors that in many cases can be removed laparoscopically, preserving the uterus. Other reasons for hysterectomies are shown in the diagram below. 20-30 % of women have urinary incontinence problems years after a standard hysterectomy. 20-30% of women have sexual dysfunction problems after a standard hysterectomy. There are approximately 1200 hysterectomies performed yearly in Denver.
